abiding in Him

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Isaiah 30:12-33:9. God tells Israel (and us) that "Only in returning to me and resting in Me will you be saved. In quietness and trust is your strength."

The Bible says over and over that we must "rest" in Him, and "abide" in Him, and "wait" for Him. While of course it tells us things that we should DO in our lives as followers of Jesus (love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us, feed His sheep), it is at least as interested in who we ARE. BEING in Him, staying there, resting there, living there, abiding there, waiting there... in Him. That's what He calls us to do. Come into His presence and BE.

That's where we will find our strength. That's where we will be saved. In Him.

If you're away from Him today, seek Him. Even if you are only a little away, a tiny bit separated. Seek Him. He will run to you, and teach you to abide in Him. When we abide in Him, we can do anything. But apart from Him, we can do nothing.

God, help us abide in You.
