encouragement

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Job 4:1-7:21. Job's friend Eliphaz comes and is trying to give Job some advice. He doesn't give very good advice, but he DOES start off well, by pointing out that Job has always been an encourager. "In the past you have encouraged many people," he says, "You have strengthened those who were weak."

If there's one thing we know from reading Job, it's that Job was a pretty good guy. So it's good for us to learn from his example. Let's try to be like Job in this way today. Try to find someone who needs encouragement (it probably won't be hard) and give them something to smile about. It's not in your control whether they smile or not. But give them a reason.

If everyone does this, won't the world be a better place? Today, let's be like Job.

God, thanks for giving us a good example in Job.
