Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 2 Kings 9:14-10:31. And this is some great storytelling! Jehu goes after both the king and Jezebel. My favorite part of the story, though, is when Jehu yells up at Jezebel and asks "Is there anyone up there who is with me?" and "two or three eunuchs looked down at him."
You can just see their heads popping out of the windows and looking down at him. And then he tells them to throw Jezebel down, and great was her fall.
There are consequences for our actions. Jezebel had done horrible things all of her life, and she ended up being thrown out of a window (defenestrated is the wonderful word for that), run over by a chariot, and eaten by dogs.
Those who challenge God today will also face consequences. Let's pray that God is merciful when they do.
God, thank you for justice... and for mercy.
