how to remain innocent

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 Samuel 26:1-28:25. Once again, Saul is at David's mercy, and once again David chooses to spare him.

But this time he speaks right off the pages of the Old Testament and right into our lives in 2020. He says, "Who can remain innocent after attacking the Lord's anointed one?" We really need to take that wisdom to heart today. Because it's very popular to attack our leaders, especially verbally on social media. And yes, I'm pointing fingers at myself, too. But the Bible teaches us that God has put our leaders in their positions, and that we are to pray for them. This was, by the way, during the time that those leaders were sentencing Christians to horrible deaths, so don't think that Paul's advice doesn't apply today.

So the next time you're tempted to attack the Pope, or the president, or your governor, or your local mayor.... even though they DO make bad decisions sometimes... instead of laying into them on social media (because what good does that actually do?), pray for them instead.

God, thanks for teaching us to pray for our leaders.
