single, married, or religious?

Today we read from Deuteronomy 18:1-20:20 in the One Year Bible. God tells the Levites that they are not going to inherit land like the other tribes, but instead that God Himself will be "their special possession."

None of us are born married. None of us are born priests or nuns. We are all born single! And so, for the first part of our lives, we're all called to chaste single life. And then, as we move through the various stages of our lives, we are called to other things. Some of us are called to be married. Some are called to be priests or nuns. Some are called to be single for life. There are other callings, too.... some are called to write music and some called to be teachers. But God calls all of us to something.

If you are in the part of your life where He's called you to be single, either because you're not yet called to marriage or religious life, or because He's called you to be single for life.... He is "your special possession." Other people have spouses to love and cherish, but for you, He Himself is your special possession. So rest in Him, and know that He will always be more than enough.

God, thanks for reminding us that You are more than enough for us.
