you shall not want

Today we read from Deuteronomy 2:1-3:29 in the One Year Bible. God tells the Hebrew people that even though they've been wandering through the wilderness for 40 years, they have never lacked anything they need.

Now the Hebrews might have something to say about that. When they were remembering their "flesh pots" that they ate from in Egypt, and all they had to eat in the wilderness was dry manna and water, they probably felt like they "lacked something they needed."

You and I are traveling through our wilderness right now, too. Some of us have lost jobs due to this virus. Some of us have lost friends or relatives who have died from it. Some of us wonder how we're going to pay our mortgage or feed our families when we aren't getting a steady income like we're used to.

But God will take care of us. Put your faith in Him. Ask Him this day for your daily bread, and He will take care of you. You might be eating manna instead of digging into your flesh pot. You might not have an overabundance of toilet paper. But He will provide what you need.

In the meantime, let's be kind to each other. We're all in this together, and being sweet will make the road more bearable for everyone. Being grouchy will make it worse for everyone, especially ourselves.

God, thanks for always providing what we need.
