when God calls you
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Numbers 6:1-7:89. Wow, 89! That's alot of verses in one chapter. But in chapter 6, we read about Nazarites.
A Nazarite is someone who is called to set themselves apart from other people for a time, usually 40 days, to focus on God and their relationship with Him. Some say that Jesus was a Nazarite all of His life. Samson was a Nazarite. And Paul took a vow, which might have been a Nazarite vow.
You don't think of people today taking Nazarite vows. But God actually called ME to take this vow when I was in college. It was during Lent, which is the season that we're celebrating right now. It was a pretty cool time when He called me to set myself apart for Him and to do what He was calling me to do.
What is God calling you to do? It may or may not be a Nazarite vow. But He for sure IS calling you to come closer to Him, to focus on your relationship with Him, and to listen for what He's calling you to do. What is He telling you?
God, thanks for calling us closer to You.
