Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Leviticus 25:47-27:13. Moses is receiving the instructions regarding the year of jubilee, which is a great idea that was built into their culture and faith. Every so many years, all debts were forgiven and all lands were restored to their original owners. It was a great reset that allowed people to be relieved of great burdens and heavy debts.
We have a great jubilee coming for us, too. One day time will come to an end, and those who deserve rewards will receive them. People who suffered in this life will be taken care of and exalted to a high place. People who had it easy in this life will have some purifying to go through. The last will be first and the first, last. And we will all be surprised how great it will be. Our debts will be forgiven, and we will be given an inheritance that we can't begin to imagine now.
So let's live lives worthy of that end, shall we? Let's live like we're looking forward to that jubilee. Give generously, knowing that your generosity will one day be vastly repaid.
