Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Numbers 16:14-18:32. The people attack Moses and Aaron, and God decides to just wipe them out and start over. But Moses and Aaron intercede for them and stop the plague from killing everyone.
Today we're facing COVID-19, aka the Corona virus. And no one in their right mind is saying that the people who are dying from it have angered God or sinned horribly. God is not punishing people by killing them with this virus.
However, the virus is killing thousands of people. And we can intercede on behalf of those who are currently suffering, that they will find His grace and mercy in the midst of their suffering, and maybe even His healing. We can pray for those who have died, that they will rest in peace. We can pray for their families, to have grace and peace in this time. And we can pray for containment, so that more people don't have to die.
Let's be like Moses and Aaron and stand in the gap, interceding for all of the people in the world who are facing death and uncertainty. Let's pray they find Him in this chaotic time. And let's pray that we find a way to contain the virus before thousands more die.
God, thanks for teaching us so applicably from today's reading.
