done on purpose

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Numbers 15:17-16:40. God is giving Moses instructions for when the Hebrews sin on purpose vs when they sin on accident.

And that teaches us something important today. It's one thing to have a bad habit that you're trying to quit. It's another thing to teach people that it's OK to do the bad thing that you struggle with.

For example, it's one thing to have a drinking problem that you're trying to control. You drink too much and make bad choices while drunk. You know it's wrong and you're trying to stop. You repent of the sins of drunkenness and of the bad choices you make while drunk.

It's a totally different story when you teach people that getting black out drunk every night is OK and that people who say otherwise are wrong. Not only are you perpetuating your own sin, you're leading others into it. This is very bad and much harder to repent of, because you have to admit what you said was wrong.

Say a prayer that you will avoid sinning in the second category. And pray for those who do. It's a hard sin to break.

God, thanks for teaching us the difference between intentional and unintentional sins.
