big promises depend on faithfulness

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Exodus 23:14-25:40. God makes some big promises to the Israelites, and they make big promises in return. This is called a covenant.

The children of Israel hear all of God's big promises, and swear to do all of the things He's commanded. You probably know, even if you haven't read it, that they break this promise. Humans aren't very good at keeping their promises, as a rule.

The good thing is that God knows this about us. He knows that we're fickle and silly and nearsighted. And He loves us anyway. So we can trust Him to keep His promises, even when we're terrible about keeping ours.

God, thanks for keeping Your promises. Please help us be more faithful.
