where are you?
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Genesis 3:1-4:26. Adam and Eve eat the apple, and immediately they hide from God. He comes looking for them, and asks "Where are you?"
That's what you and I do, too, isn't it? When we sin, don't we go and hide? Try to cover it up? Avoid talking about it with God or with anyone else? Shame keeps us from admitting it and coming back to Him. And sometimes that shame and that cover up makes the situation 1000 times worse than the original sin.
But God comes looking for us. That's the amazing truth of history, of the Bible, of our lives. God seeks us out. He comes walking in our gardens, and asks, "Where are you?" Not because He doesn't know where we are... but because WE don't know where we are. We've lost our way, and when He asks, "Where are you?" it gives us our bearings, and we're able to find our way back to Him.
As we begin this new year, let's discover where we are, turn away from the sins that shame us and cause us to hide, and return to Him, who never stops seeking us out.
God, thanks for not giving up on us.
