brand new year: God speaks
Today we begin a new year. And in this year, I will continue to write my responses to the One Year Bible readings for each day, but this year I will focus on the Old Testament passages. I hope you will follow along.
Today we read from Genesis 1:1-2:25. God speaks, and creates everything that exists. He calls it good. It's good to step back from the rush of our daily lives and see that He has done the same thing in OUR lives.
He spoke the things into existence that we take for granted each day. He gave us good food to eat, and fresh air to breathe. He gave us exercise to release endorphins in our brains so we'll be happy. He made food and sex and exercise very pleasurable, so that we would enjoy doing the things that He calls us to do. And our very first commandment is to be fruitful and multiply.
As we move into the new year, let's remember what He's spoken into our lives... and what He has called good. And let's commit ourselves once more to doing the things He's called us to - which we will find great pleasure in doing.
God, thanks for making all things good.
