patience is still a virtue

Today in the One Year Bible, we see an example of what impatience does to us. We read this in Genesis 16:1-18:15. Sarai is promised that she will have children with Abram, and when it doesn't happen immediately, she grows impatient. She sends the servant girl, Hagar, to her husband to sleep with him so he will have children that way. What could go wrong?

Well, Hagar started treating Sarai badly once she became pregnant. So Sarai was so mean to Hagar that she ran away.

This is what happens when we try to rush God. We mess everything up and hurt people. If we are patient, and wait for His timing, then we see the plan He had for us all along. And we can be loving and kind to one another.

God, thanks for teaching us to be patient.
