the seven spirits of God
Today in the One Year Bible, we begin a very complex and potentially confusing book. The book of Revelation has been read and discussed and misunderstood probably more than any other book of the Bible. And today, we read a very interesting verse that I've never noticed before. John says, "Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is to come; from the sevenfold Spirit before His throne; and from Jesus Christ." The first "one" is God the Father, clearly. And we know Jesus is the second person of the Trinity. But I don't remember hearing the Holy Spirit referred to as the sevenfold Spirit of God before.
When I did a little research online, I found that there is good reason to think that the "sevenfold" nature of the Holy Spirit involve seven aspects or gifts of the Spirit, including fear (respect or reverence), might, understanding, the Lord (or master), wisdom, counsel, and knowledge.
I'm going to do more research and come back to report what more I find. But it's interesting to have read and studied the Bible for dozens of years, and have a degree in theology, and still find things in the Bible that are fascinating and new.
God, thanks for always having more for us to learn. You are amazing.
