what's beyond justice
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Hebrews 7:1-17. Paul tells us about Melchizedek, whose name means "King of Justice." And Melchizedek is a type from the Old Testament of Jesus. Paul even says he "resembles the Son of God."
But that brings up a big question. How is God just if He forgives our sins? Well, John answers this when he says, "He is faithful and JUST to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
When God forgives our sins, He's going BEYOND justice. He's not being unjust. He's being SUPER just. Love goes beyond what merely satisfies justice. He doesn't give us what we deserve... but He's perfectly just in giving us something far better than we deserve, because He does so in love.
God, thank You for Your love, which goes beyond justice.
