Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Hebrews 6:1-20. Paul exhorts (that means strongly encourages) us to grow up already. He says we should stop going over and over the simple things of God and move on to maturity.
Meanwhile, a high school teacher in California wore blackface and tried to rap like Common (for Halloween. In 2019.) And #FloridaMan told the cops who pulled him over that he wasn't drinking and driving because he only took swigs of his Jack Daniels when he was at stop signs.
So on the one hand, yes. We do need to grow up. We need to learn the deeper things. We need to become mature followers of Jesus. And, I repeat again, listening to this will help you grow.
But also, let's remember to be patient with all of the mind blowing stupidity in the world around us. Even stupid people need our love. And just remember the times when you haven't been the sharpest light in the harbor.
God, thanks for calling us to maturity... and helping us be patient with those who aren't quite there yet.
