redeeming the cosmos
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Colossians 1:18-2:7. Paul tells us that Jesus didn't just redeem humanity through His work on the cross - He redeemed everything. The whole universe. As a result of the fall of man, back in Genesis with Adam and Eve, all of the universe was condemned... and suffered the effects of the fall. But through Jesus all of the cosmos was redeemed.
That's important to realize, because some people today are worried that the world is going to self destruct. That we only have a few years left before we all die due to the planet heating up and the human population raging out of control to the point where we will not have enough food, air, and clean water for everyone.
But God is in control. He created the universe. And He redeemed it through the work of Jesus on the cross. So yes, we SHOULD be good stewards of the home He gave us. But we shouldn't worry about the world coming to a cataclysmic end due to carbon dioxide. Plants love it.
God, thanks for redeeming the cosmos. Help us be good stewards of it.
