the work He gives you

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 Corinthians 3:5-23. Paul tells us that he and Apollos and the other disciples only did "the work God gave us." And that's a good lesson for us to remember in our lives, as well.

God gives you work to do in your life. He expects you to do it. If you do, you'll find meaning and richness in your life. If you don't, then that work most likely won't get done, or someone else will have to do it in addition to the work He gave THEM to do.

You don't have to worry about not being able to do your work. He will enable you. That doesn't necessarily mean you'll do it really well, though. As Chesterton taught us, anything worth doing is worth doing badly. If the work He's calling you to do is really important, it's OK if you don't do it great. Just do it. Even if it's not pretty, and is only a 2 out of 10, and doesn't pass with flying colors... what matters is that you did it.

So find out what He's calling you to do - and do it. We're counting on you.

God, thanks for giving us work to do - and for helping us do it.
