the same comfort

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 2 Corinthians 1:1-11. Paul is talking to the people of Corinth, Greece. And he says he is writing to the people of Corinth AND all of the "holy people" throughout Greece. That's interesting, and it brings something to light that he says next.

He says, "He comforts us in our troubles so we can comfort others." Of course, Paul wrote this in Greek to the readers, who also spoke Greek. It's been translated into English for us to understand. AND take comfort from!

It's amazing how God does that. He comforted Paul in his troubles, so that he could then share that comfort with the people in Greece 2000 years ago. But then those words, that comfort, were written down into a book that we read today... and that comfort comes off the pages and into our lives.

It's astounding, when you think about it, how reading can transform your life. You step out of the time and space that you're born into and into the shoes of people living in another culture, another time, another language... and their thoughts and their struggles and their peace become yours, too.

God, thanks for sharing the struggles and the comfort of Paul and the Grecian people with us today. Help us pass it along.
