scared of being sacred
Today we read from 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 in the One Year Bible. Paul tells us that we have been called by God to be His own holy people. That He made us holy by means of Christ Jesus.
So what does it mean to be holy? Sounds kind of boring and rigid and difficult, right? But it's not. First, the definition of "holy" is "dedicated or consecrated to God for a religious purpose." It means to be a saint. And that should make you feel better, because the saints were anything but boring! The more someone becomes a saint, the more interesting they are. The more different they are from other people. The more they really become THEMSELVES. And when you think about it, that makes sense. Because when you become a saint, you're becoming the person who God intended you to be. You're throwing aside the world's attempts to make you dull and boring and sinful, like the world is. And you're daring to be the original person that God made you.
So let's strive to be holy, with His help, so we can truly be the people He created us to be.
God, thanks for making us holy.
