tempted to worship

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 10:24-48. Cornelius is so amazed by Peter that he bows down and worships him. Of course, Peter immediately lifts him up and tells him not to worship him, as he's not a god, but to worship God alone. Good stuff.

But it's a good reminder of something that CS Lewis tells us. That every common person we see today will one day be so amazing, in their heavenly form, that if we saw them now, in that form, we'd be tempted to worship them.

Lewis concludes: "There are no ordinary people." And that's a good reminder. We need to treat everyone we meet - from the jerk who cuts us off in traffic to the homeless man who asks for a dollar for cleaning your windshield to your annoying sibling who does THAT THING that bothers you... just because it bothers you... as the amazing, beloved child of God that they are.

God, thanks for reminding us to treat Your children as Your children.
