don't get in His way

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 11:1-30. Peter is retelling the story of being taught not to call things unclean that God calls clean. And in this story, he points out, "Who was I to stand in God's way?"

Now, it's pretty clear that God has everything under control, right? His will will be done. He has already defeated the enemy. He has already won. And what He purposes will come to pass in the world. So it's up to us to either cooperate with Him, and participate in what He's doing, which will be good for us and for those in our lives... or we can stand in His way. People like Pharaoh and Judas stood in His way. It didn't go so well for them or for those in their lives.

Now, if you're reading this, you probably want to cooperate with Him. Most people who would read my blog are the type of people who want to do His will. But it's good to remember that He has already won. We're not fighting a war with an uncertain outcome. God will win in the end. Every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Those who do it sooner will benefit from it most, both in this life and in the one to come. Those who stand in His way.... they won't be receiving such great rewards.

So ask Him to show you how to cooperate today. You'll be glad you did.

God, thanks for letting us cooperate with Your work in the world.
