servant to all

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Mark 10:32-52. Jesus teaches us something very difficult, but very useful.

He tells His disciples that in order to be good leaders, they must learn to serve. They must make themselves servants to everyone. That's not something anyone wants to hear, right? Serve everyone? I am 100% sure that you can think of someone that you are NOT excited about serving, amirite?

But think about how this transforms the world. If EVERYONE is looking to see how they can serve others, then the whole world gets better. Everyone is trying to make everyone else's life better. No one is fighting over the best seat or the last slice of pizza... instead, everyone is arguing over who GETS to pay for dinner or who can open the door for the other person. Those are good arguments.

It's not easy. In fact, with some people, it's impossible. But with God all things are possible.

This Lent is a good time to start trying to implement this in your life (if you don't already do this). Try working this servant mentality into your relationships... and see how they bloom.

God, thanks for teaching us how to change the world: by changing ourselves.
