you are what you eat
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Mark 3:7-30. Jesus and His disciples are healing sick people, and so many come to follow Him that He and His crew can't even find time to eat.
It's easy to get that busy in life, isn't it? To get so caught up in what we're doing, even if it's super important like healing people and spreading the kingdom of God, that we neglect our own needs. God gave us great food, and even commanded us to have feast days to enjoy it. He commanded that we take at least one day off per week to rest and enjoy what He's given us.
We need to remember that it's not optional for us to take care of our bodies. It's not an option or a suggestion. He commands us to be good stewards of what He's given us, and that includes our bodies.
So rest! Eat! Enjoy! That's an order!
God, thanks for knowing how prone we are to neglect ourselves, and commanding us to take care instead.
