those teaching moments
Today Jesus teaches us something profound in the One Year Bible reading from Matthew 22:1-33. The religious leaders try to trap Him and ask Him questions that they don't think there are answers for. But not only does He easily answer them, He takes a moment to teach us something today. "Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give God what belongs to God," is a phrase that we can unpack all day.
He does that in our lives today, too. We often miss it, because we're rushing through life without paying attention. But if we stop and listen, He uses each of the moments of our lives to teach us something. Usually it's to love other people. But sometimes it has to do with kindness, and other times it teaches us patience. If we stop and listen, especially in the critical moments of our lives, we can hear the lessons that He's teaching us.
Stop. Pause. Listen. Wait and see what He wants to teach you. You'll be glad you did.
God, thanks for using moments throughout our lives to teach us. Help us listen.
