keep going to see what happens

Jesus gives a great answer today in the One Year Bible reading from Matthew 22:34-23:12. The religious leaders come with ulterior motives once again, but in answer to their questions, He tells all of us what is most important in life: To love God with everything we have, and to love others like we love ourselves. When we really think about it, this is in a sense one and the same command, because the way we love God primarily is by loving other people. This is why when Jesus asks Peter if he loves Him, the followup command is "Feed my sheep."

But then... Jesus stumps them with an incredible question that no one can answer. And Matthew tells us that after that, no one dared ask Him anything else.

That's too bad, isn't it? They got scared and they gave up. Right when He was teaching them what is most important in life, they were afraid and didn't want to go any farther.

Let's not be like that. Let's learn from their mistakes. When He starts giving us answers that make all of our lives make sense, let's press forward and ask Him more. Let's lay aside the fear of the unknown, the fear of the adventure He is leading us into, and ask Him what's next. Let's trust Him to lead us into deeper truth, and greater adventures.

God, thanks for giving us great answers. Please help us not be afraid to keep asking.
