the world won't understand
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Matthew 27:32-66. Jesus is on the cross, and people are yelling at Him, "If you come down from that cross and save yourself, we'll believe in you."
They totally didn't understand what He was doing. And, granted, what He was doing was very difficult to understand. No one in the world would have guessed that He was literally going to die and then rise from the dead. Even His disciples, who spent years with Him, day after day, still discussed among themselves what "rising from the dead" meant.
That brings us to our present day lesson. When you do what God is calling you to do, the world will probably not understand. Your friends and family may not either. Jesus's family tried to take Him away someplace "safe" because they thought He was crazy. You yourself may not even understand what you're doing. Jesus was completely without sin, and the closest person to God who ever lived... yet even He prayed, "Not my will, but Yours be done." Even He didn't WANT to do the thing He was called to do.
So don't be surprised when no one gets it. When you're swimming upstream. When you're doing something that seems to make no sense, just because you felt like God was calling you to. That dream might even die.
But if He's calling you to do it, it will rise again.
God, thanks for calling us to do things so amazing that no one understands what they are.
