Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Revelation 2:18-3:6. We're told of a woman who is leading many astray in the early church. Who is teaching that sexual immorality and eating forbidden meat is OK, and causing many to sin.
But rather than striking her down, or condemning her, Jesus makes it clear that she is given many opportunities to repent. Even after she rejects these offers, she is "thrown on a bed of suffering" so that she might be cured and forgiven of her sins.
How great God's mercy is for us. Even those of us who are very bad at repenting... who are all too good at finding ways to get wrapped up in the sins that so easily entangle us. He is always there, bringing us back to Him, every time we call.
Let's reach out with that same patient mercy to those around us who fall into sin so easily.
God, thanks for your great mercy and forgiveness. Help us to be like You.
