the danger of pride

Today we read from 2 Peter 2:1-22 in the One Year Bible. Peter tells us how dangerous it is to "scoff at supernatural beings, without so much as trembling." This arrogant pride is rampant today. So many people thumb their noses at the supernatural, counting it as old wives' tales and superstition.

But, says Peter, even the angels, who are much smarter and more powerful than we are, do not DARE to bring a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings. We would be wise to follow their example. To focus on Jesus, and not try to mock beings that are bigger than we are.

God, thanks for teaching us to resist pride and place our trust in You.
