be on the lookout
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 2 Timothy 2:1-21. Paul talks about being a mentor. He says that Timothy heard him teach many things, and so he should pass those things on to others.
That brings up an important part of the Christian life. We are all at a certain point on the journey toward holiness. You are at a certain point in that journey, and I'm at another point. There are lots of people ahead of you, and lots behind you on this adventure we're on.
It's good to be on the lookout for two types of people. One who needs to learn from you. You've been taught things by God and by other people on this journey that would benefit the one who needs to learn from you. So seek them out, and pour out the wisdom and knowledge that He's given you into their lives.
The other person is the one who has learned things that YOU need to learn. The one who is a little farther down the road than you are. Seek them out, too. And drink in the wisdom they have for you. Be a mentor - and find your OWN mentor. That's part of what being a Christian is all about.
God, thank You for mentors... learning from them, and being one ourselves.
