in the darkness

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 2 Corinthians 4:1-12. And boy is it appropriate for today. It talks about being light in the darkness. It talks about being beaten down and accosted on every side. It describes life as we know it today, with so much darkness around us. He even says, "So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you."

God shines His light bright in the darkness. He uses us, His children, to bring the light of eternal life into everyone around us. Even as the darkness creeps up around us, the light from inside of us, His light, shines into that darkness and brings hope and joy and peace to those who see it.

So don't be weary in doing good. (I'm talking to myself as much as to you, the reader.) Keep on sharing the light. Continue being salt. Let the world see His love, even - especially - in the midst of the darkness. The darker the night gets, the easier it is to find the light. The contrast becomes more and more apparent.

God, please shine Your light brightly in our lives. And help us to keep going in the face of death.
