Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 5:1-42. In it, a wise man named Gamaliel tells the other religious leaders who were trying to decide what to do with Peter and the other disciples, that they should wait and see. If they're not legit, they'll just fade away. But if they really are doing what God wants, then the leaders may find themselves fighting against God Himself.
This is good advice for us today. When something new comes along in your life, unless it's clearly and obviously evil (murder, sexual immorality, theft, etc), often it's best to follow Gamaliel's advice and wait and see. If the thing you're watching isn't from God, then it will usually just flail and then die. As Peter Kreeft points out, evil is always self defeating (though it does take a long time to defeat itself in some cases.) But if it's from God, then you don't want to oppose it.... or you might find yourself fighting against God.
God, thank You for the wisdom that we learn from Gamaliel. Help us remember to wait and see.
