who God is
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 4:4-42. We read one of my favorite passages from Jesus's life - the woman at the well. It's so like Jesus to share His identity for the first time with a Samaritan woman. A nobody, by the standards in those days. Jews were not supposed to talk to Samaritans, and men seldom talked to women in public. Jesus starts off very simply, with a request that she can understand. That's where He starts with each of us - a simple request that we can understand: read the Bible, pray, spend time with Him, go to church.
And then He grows the conversation into deeper and richer things... eventually explaining that the whole WORLD will be able to worship God like it never has before... and announcing for the very first time that He is the Messiah that they've all been waiting for. He proves that He really does know what He's talking about by telling her things that He shouldn't be able to know. That's exactly how God works in our lives. He gains our trust, tells us simple things, and then grows them into truths that we couldn't begin to fathom without Him. Eventually, He tells us THE most important truth: who He is.
God, please keep teaching us who You are.
