when God messes everything up

In today's selection from the One Year Bible, we read from Luke 1:26-56. And what we read is God messing everything up.

He sent Gabriel to give Mary a very important message. And we have the HUGE benefit of hindsight to understand how it was all going to work out. But think about it from Mary's perspective. She wasn't planning for ANY of that to happen! She didn't plan to be pregnant as a virgin. She didn't plan on being the mother of God. She couldn't fathom what the angel could possibly mean when he said that her son would rule over Israel forever.

He does that in our lives, too. He comes along and changes things. Messes up our plans. Makes us uncomfortable. Pushes us to do things we never would have imagined. Scares the heck out of us!

But when we say yes to Him, the way Mary did, He works miracles in our lives, too.

God, help us say yes.
