don't argue with Jesus

Today we read from Luke 8:40-9:6 in the One Year Bible. It's the story of the raising of Jairus's daughter. In this story, Jesus tells the crowd that she is only sleeping, so they shouldn't be afraid. They laugh at Him, because they think they know better than Jesus.

We know that Jesus was right, so we think the people are foolish to laugh. But we do the same thing. God tells us things, and we think we know better. He says to love our enemies. To pray for people who treat us badly. To turn the other cheek. And we think we know better than He does, that if He knew what they'd done to us, He'd understand why we don't let go of our grudge. Why we don't love those who've hurt us.

But just as He knew better regarding the little girl He raised from the dead, He knows how to raise you from the dead, too. He knows that if we follow His directions, He can bring us out of the "sleep" that kills our souls, and bring us back to the everlasting life we were created to live.

Don't laugh when Jesus tells you what to do. He really does know better.

God, thank You for bringing us back to life.
