God is so kind

Hello! I'm still sick today, so I've provided someone else reading the Bible for today so you don't have to listen to me cough and sneeze. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow. CLICK HERE to listen to today's readings.

We read a remarkable conversation between God and Abraham today. God blesses Abraham, and tells him he will have lots of blessings. But Abraham says, "What good are Your blessings if I don't have a son to inherit them?" That's not a very humble question, but God takes it kindly and promises that Abraham will have lots of children. Abraham believes Him, and He is pleased by the faith that Abraham has in believing Him.

That's kind of sad, because it means God is so used to us NOT believing Him that He is impressed when someone finally does. But we go on in the story and see that God continues to promise great blessings to Abraham, including lots of land. Now Abraham asks, "How can I be sure that You're actually going to do this?"

And God doesn't rebuke him for his lack of faith. He gives him a covenant. He speaks to him in a deep sleep, and shows him in signs that he can understand what will happen, helping Abraham's faith to grow.

And that's how God meets with us, isn't it? He takes what little faith we have... even if it's the size of a tiny little mustard seed... and He grows it. He helps us to trust Him more.

What blessings does He have for you today? Do you trust Him?

God, thanks for being so patient and kind when we falter in our faith.
