Lewis talks about giving to the poor today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.
He tells us that we should give until it hurts. That if our giving to those in need doesn't pinch a little, then we're not giving enough.
But I think we need to shift the focus to love, as noted in the pic above. When we really love people, we give to them cheerfully. The Bible tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. And it isn't that hard to give our time, money, and energy to people that we genuinely care about.
So, like St. Teresa tells us above, let's strive to find the end of love. We can't - it goes on forever. But in looking for it, we will find all the motivation we need to give to others ... and demonstrate our love for Jesus.
God, thanks for helping us give in love. Even if it does hurt.
