today's readings: Numbers 11:24- 13:33, Mark 14:22-52, Psalm 52:1-9, Proverbs 11:1-3
Peter tells Jesus that he will never desert Him, even if everyone else does. but Jesus knows what's going to happen. He knows Judas will betray Him, and Peter will deny that he knows Him... and all of the disciples will run away and leave Him alone.
yet, knowing this, He gives them His flesh to eat, His blood to drink. knowing that just a few hours later they would all turn their backs on Him, He gave them the gift of Himself... and eternal life.
He knows what we are going to do, too. He knows we'll be weak and we'll sin. He knows that we will betray Him in our thinking, and treat the least of our brothers with contempt, disdain, and apathy... thereby treating Him that way.
yet He loves us. He gives us His flesh, His blood... He gives us Himself. He gives us eternal life.
let's remember that the next time someone asks for something... even when you know they'll hurt you. He does it for us... how can we be ungrateful in the face of so much generosity?
