false teachers: One Year Bible Reading for November 28

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Daniel 5:1-31
2 Peter 2:1-22
Psalm 119:113-128
Proverbs 28:19-20

Let's look at 2 Peter. The first pope (Peter) warns us about false teachers. And we've seen many of them between his day and ours! There are many today, too. And the picture above, of a wolf in the middle of a bunch of sheep, brings the malicious false teacher to mind very aptly.

But the bigger problem are all of the false teachers who actually THINK they're teaching the truth! There are SO many different churches today, teaching all kinds of things. It's easy to point our finger at TV evangelists who are raking in the millions by asking their followers to donate money all of the time. But the thing we need to be MOST careful about is - make sure WE OURSELVES aren't in heresy! The Arians that St Thomas Aquinas fought against probably thought THEY were teaching the truth. The Methodists, and the Baptists, and the Presbyterians, and the Lutherans, and Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses, and the Unitarians all think they're teaching the truth today. But they're not all teaching the same thing, right? So how do we know what's true?

It's very important for you to make sure you're learning the truth. Find out where your church comes from and why they believe what they believe. And then make your choice where to worship accordingly. Your eternal destiny might depend on it.

God, thanks for reminding us that there are false teachers today, and that we should make sure we believe the truth You gave us.

Thought...
We all know "wolf in sheep's clothing".
Saul whom became Paul was one.

Think of the 1st wolf, eventually many trained+bred+trained+bred, x amount of times, to the point we have various highly faithful sheepdogs.

Bookmark for conversation soon; it's been too long.
