Today we read from the following verses in the One Year Bible:
2 Samuel 2:12-3:39
John 13:1-30
Psalm 119:1-16
Proverbs 15:29-30
Let's look at John. Right at the beginning of today's reading, it says that Jesus knew His time to go home to His father had come. Jesus knew He was about to die. If you look at the picture above, you'll see it's from the movie Blade Runner. In the movie, the "replicants" (which are androids built to look just like humans) only live a handful of years before they die. The one in the picture is mad about that. He says, "Wake up... time to die!" which is how he feels his life has gone.

You and I and everyone we know will die in the near future. No one makes it out alive. The mortality rate is pretty much 100%. We know we're going to die, and in the not too distant future.
Are you ready? How do you want to die? What do you want the people who knew you to remember you by? What will you wish you had done more of or less of when that time comes?
Let's live today in the light of that day. Memento mori.
God, thanks for reminding us that soon we will meet You face to face. Help us get ready for that day.
