Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:
2 Samuel 14:1-15:22
John 18:1-24
Psalm 119:97-112
Proverbs 16:8-9
Let's look at the Proverb. Verse 9 says, "In their hearts, humans plan their course. But the LORD establishes their steps."
A similar saying is "Man plans, God laughs." And another verse on the subject is James 4:13-14 where James tells us not to say "Tomorrow I will go to this city and do such and such..." because we don't know what the future holds.
Does this mean we shouldn't make plans? We should just do things today and let tomorrow take care of itself? Of course not. But it does mean two very big things: ONE, it means don't worry about tomorrow. You really don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, and God is here in the NOW with you, not in the tomorrow that doesn't exist yet. When you get to tomorrow, He'll be there waiting for you.
TWO, try to learn what God wants you to do. Ask Him to show you. Ask Him to give you the desire to do the things that He is calling you to do. That way when "the LORD establishes your steps", you'll be right in step with Him.
God, thanks for showing us not to plan tomorrow - without You.
