Eat My Flesh: One Year Bible Reading for May 11

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

1 Samuel 10:1-11:15
John 6:43-71
Psalm 107:1-43
Proverbs 15:1-3

Let's look at John 6! Just a note: my friend read John 6 and prayed about it, and became Catholic as a result! So Jesus is telling His followers that He is the bread of heaven, and if they eat His flesh, they will have eternal life. If they do NOT eat His flesh, they will not have eternal life. For the last 2000 years, the Catholic church has taught that the Eucharist, pictured above, is the actual flesh of Jesus. When we eat it, it brings us eternal life.

This might be hard for you to swallow. Literally and figuratively. Read these examples of Eucharistic miracles over the centuries to help you understand how miraculous the Eucharist is.

But it's important that we understand John 6:66. When many who were following Jesus heard this hard saying, they stopped following Him. What about you? Will you eat His flesh and live forever, or find this truth too hard to accept?

God, thanks for teaching us the truth - and giving us Your flesh and blood to bring us eternal life.
