He Loves Us Most of All: One Year Bible Reading for April 18

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Joshua 16:1-18:28
Luke 19:1-27
Psalm 87:1-7
Proverbs 13:11

Let's look at the Psalm. We're told that God really loves the gates of Zion. That's in Jerusalem. And Jerusalem was attacked and mostly destroyed over the course of history. God also created the entire world and all of the creatures in it, and made a beautiful garden for man to live in. But we messed things up so much that He sent a flood and destroyed all of the beautiful things He'd made.

In a way, that's very sad. God is a wonderful and amazing creator who delights in making intricate and beautiful things. It's tragic that the actions of humans over the years have caused so many of His wonderful creations to be destroyed.

In a way, that's really profound and humbling. Because it means that of all the things He made, He loves us humans the most. Sometimes we can see why. Most of the time, it boggles the mind.

God, thanks for loving us so much. Please help us to become worthy of that love.
