Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Deuteronomy 33:1-29
Luke 13:1-21
Psalm 78:65-72
Proverbs 12:25
Let's look at the Psalm. David is taken from his job of herding the sheep, and placed in charge of herding the children of Israel. So many things we learn from this. First, God uses the small and humble to effect His will in the world. Two, when you've been taking care of little ones, you're sometimes being prepared to take care of bigger ones. Third, sometimes God takes you from your little job and gives you a much bigger one. But in both jobs, what you do is VERY IMPORTANT to the little ones you're taking care of.
So whether God is trusting you with a huge task or a little baby one right now, do it with love. Both St Teresa of Calcutta and St Therese of Lisieux agree that WHAT we do is only so important - that we do it with great love is what matters most.
God, thanks for teaching us to take care of our sheep - big or small.
