Today we read from the One Year Bible in the following places:
Leviticus 24:1-25:46
Mark 10:13-31
Psalm 44:9-26
Proverbs 10:20-21
Let's look at Mark. Jesus tells us two things. One, we must become like children to enter the kingdom of God. And two, to be perfect, we must give up all our stuff and follow Him. That it's hard for the rich to enter heaven. How do those things go together? Can children sell all their stuff and follow Jesus?
Think about it in terms of childish vs childlike. If we're being childish, we want to hold on to our things selfishly and throw tantrums when we have to give things up. But when we're childLIKE, we trust. We know that those who are wiser than we are will take care of us, and we don't have to provide for our futures. That's how God wants us to trust Him. With childLIKE trust and love.
God, thanks for teaching us the difference.
