That Golden Calf: One Year Bible Reading for February 11

Today we read from the following passages in the One Year Bible:

Exodus 32:1-33:23
Matthew 26:69-27:14
Psalm 33:1-11
Proverbs 8:33-36

And the verse from Exodus jumps out like a calf from a fire! Because while Moses is up on the mountain receiving the ten commandments from God, face to face (ish), the people talk his brother Aaron into making a golden calf for them to worship.

You done messed up now, A-aron!

And when Moses comes down with the tablets, he makes them drink the golden calf. For real, he grinds it up and makes them swallow it. That's pretty hard core.

But it teaches us a lesson. Don't think that "I've got all the time in the world. I'm gonna goof around and do bad things, there'll be plenty of time later." Let's make the most of the time we have, and not mess up like A-aron!

God, thanks for teaching us not to take tomorrow for granted.
