Today we celebrate a saint named Solomon Leclercq, which is a really cool and unusual name. And he was a cool and unusual person! He became a priest and joined an order that focused on teaching. He threw himself wholeheartedly into teaching and helping young people to grow in their faith. Then the French Revolution came along, and the government tried to force priests to sign a document that gave away all of the church's possessions to the state. He refused to sign, and went into hiding. He was arrested and martyred, along with many others. He refused to bow to the demands of those who hated the church, and he paid the ultimate price: receiving the ultimate reward. You can read more about him here.
There are crazy things happening in the world today, too. People are being forced to do things they disagree with. The Taliban is hunting for Christians who have converted from Islam so they can burn them alive. Say a prayer for those who are in hiding, like St Solomon was. And pray that if they do have to face the ultimate test, that they don't falter in their faith.
God, thanks for the example of this valiant priest. St Solomon Leclercq, pray for us.
