Blessed Dina Belanger: The Little Flower of Canada

Today I met a new favorite saint! Not my MOST favorite... that will always be THE Little Flower, Saint Therese of Lisieux. But the Little Flower of Canada was very remarkable, too. She reminds me of many things, including St Therese and my own calling.

She was a very gifted pianist, and played concert piano in front of crowds. But she felt called to religious life, and entered a convent as a young lady. She lived a rather ordinary life in the convent, contracted two diseases, and died at the young age of 24, which is the same age at which St Therese entered heaven. No one would know how rich was her writing, and the fact that God had called her to give the gift of her writing to the world, if she had not been instructed to write her autobiography while she was in the convent. She did, and it wasn't read and disseminated until after she died.  You can read more about her here.

God calls all of us to do things. He called me to write. What has He called you to do? Maybe, like Therese and Dina and myself, the results of what He calls you to do won't be seen until you join Him in heaven.

God, thanks for calling this young woman to write. Blessed Dina Belanger, Little Flower of Canada, pray for us.
