Well, I've got a new saint to add to my list of favorites. Today we read about St Teresa of the Andes in the book In Caelo et in Terra. She was born in Chile in 1900 and was described as being "lively", "stubborn", and "vain." She was a character, in other words. Strong minded and fiery.
And then she read this. The Story of a Soul, by my fav saint of all time, St Therese of Lisieux. And it changed her life! She felt God calling her to become a Carmelite nun. And so she did, and even got special permission (like Therese) to enter and take vows early, because she was shown by God that she would die young.
And then, like Therese, she got sick and died at the age of 20. What a waste, right? Wrong. She became a saint! With laser-like focus, she zeroed in on the most important thing in life - holiness. She learned to love others the way Therese did... the way Jesus taught us. And so, having aced all of her tests, she graduated early.
You can read more about her here.
God, thanks for the life changing words of The Little Flower, who helped this gracious girl become a saint in such a short time. St Teresa of the Andes, pray for us.
